Scottish recipes have unfairly received too little attention in the world lately, even though Scotland has historically enjoyed a very rich and varied diet. Scottish recipes do not concentrate on one food type or cooking style, in fact they are quite the opposite with great variety between areas, clans and seasons. I will try to provide you with some interesting Scottish Recipes and a few directions in which to look to discover great Scottish recipes for yourself.
Scottish recipes carry with them a certain style and flavor in between Clans, which means a dish from the Stewart Clan will be different from one of the Keith Clan. At Scottish Heirloom Jewelry Company we try and provide you with a way to express and acknowledge your ancestry, and we think Scottish recipes and cooking are a perfect accompaniment to a heirloom jewelry.
One Scottish recipe that would automatically come into anyone’s mind will of course be, Haggis. This dish is truly a Scottish icon, and although no Clan may lay claim to the Scottish recipe itself, it is often associated with one man. Robert Burns, of the Campbell Clan, who once wrote a poem dedicated to Haggis...
Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the puddin-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy of a grace
As lang's my arm.
Now, every year on the 25th of January, Scots from around the globe gather to celebrate Burns’s birthday and also the national dish of Haggis.
Haggis was not a Scottish recipe that was restricted to one clan or area, and because of this there is no set national recipe for it. Every family or group has their own favorite recipe, and although I can’t say which you will like best I provided these links to set you in the right direction.

But unfortunately, beyond Haggis most people’s knowledge of Scottish recipes is limited. Luckily it can be an easy and fulfilling experience to find and try new Scottish recipes, and I will soon help you with this job. But first I must say, it would be an impossible task, and a foolish one, for me to even try begin listing all Scottish recipes, and even a less concise list will be a tremendous job.
But I can show you sites which have began this task before me, to provide you with the finest Scottish recipes. You also should visit us often to find the best of Scottish recipes (Cullen Skink, Bannock or Scottish Roast Chicken) from my sister Charlotte. Try some of them and enjoy.
The Scottish Blog is set up by the Scottish Heirloom Jewelry Company, makes of Scottish Crest Jewelry as an interactive area where visitors, customers and staff can post their thoughts, ask questions - and have some fun.
